Beach Chat with Georgie Lee

Once again I'm please to welcome another Avalon Author to Beach Chat Friday.

Name: Georgie Lee

Best beach memory: There are so many! My best friend grew up one block from the beach, so we spent many afternoons at her house in high school. Her parents still live in the same house, so whenever she’s in town, we always go to the beach.

One guilty pleasure: Buying jewelry. I love sparkly things!

Porsche 911 Turbo.
Dream car:

Three of your favorite things:
1) Period piece movies. I will watch any movie with a costume and an accent.
2) Books. Need I say more?
3) History. I just can’t get enough. I’ll read about almost any time period, but I especially love the ancient world and British history.

Pet peeve: I can’t stand when people wait until the cashier tells them the total before they even start writing their check or reaching for their wallet. Paying for a purchase doesn’t sneak up on them so, if they’re in line, they should anticipate the need to pay and be prepared. It’s especially irritating when there is a long line.

Worst non-writing job you ever had: I was a telemarketer for about three weeks in college. I needed the money and they paid weekly. Thankfully, another job came along and spared me from having to sell children’s books to hostile strangers.

Book you are reading right now: I’m always reading more than one book at a time, usually a mix of historical non-fiction and romance. The non-fiction book I’m reading right now is The Poisoner’s Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York by Deborah Blum. The romances I’m reading right now are Night Walker by Lisa Kessler and The Playboy’s Gift by Teresa Carpenter.

Preference, print or ebook: I prefer print, but we just bought a Nook so the answer could change soon.

Favorite place to write: In the living room with a diet Cherry Coke on the table next to me.

Biggest writing challenge: Finding the time to write is my biggest challenge. So many story ideas, so little time.

Genre you write: I write both sweet and sexy historicals and contemporaries, in settings ranging from modern and golden-age Hollywood, to ancient Rome and Regency-era England. My most recent release, Mask of the Gladiator takes place in ancient Rome in the days surrounding the assassination of Emperor Caligula.

Current work in progress: Like my reading, I usually have more than one book going at a time. Right now I’m working on a historical set in ancient Egypt and a contemporary novel set at a small TV station.

One author, living or dead, with whom you’d like to sip Mai Tais with on Waikiki Beach: This might sound strange, but I’d love to chat with the  Venerable Bede. Scholars know so little about Anglo Saxon England and it would be great to learn more, especially from the man who wrote Ecclesiastical History of the English People, the most comprehensive history of the era.

Favorite quote or saying: “After all, tomorrow is another day!”

A Little More About Georgie Lee:
A dedicated history and film buff, Georgie Lee loves combining her passion for Hollywood, history and storytelling through romantic fiction. She began writing professionally at a small TV station in San Diego before moving to Los Angeles to work in the interesting but strange world of the entertainment industry.
Her traditional Regency, Lady’s Wager and her contemporary novella Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion are both available from Ellora’s Cave Blush. Labor Relations, a contemporary romance of Hollywood is currently available from Avalon Books. Mask of the Gladiator, a novella of ancient Rome is now available from Carina Press. Look for her novel of love in the golden age of Hollywood from Avalon Books in 2012.
When not writing, Georgie enjoys reading non-fiction history and watching any movie with a costume and an accent. Please visit  www.georgie-lee.com for more information about Georgie and her novels.
